The Well Plaid Portree is situated between The Royal Hotel and McNab’s bar which are all part of The Royal Hotel complex. There is a slope to access into the restaurant on the side of the building.
Although there are a few booth seats most of the seating is free standing, allowing good access for a wheelchair. The restaurant, toilets and access to the Hotel reception area is all on the same level. A definite bonus is that they offer table service.
Toilets are available in McNab’s bar where there is no disabled toilet. We can vouch that in the Ladies toilet there are 2 cubicles, one larger than the other. Useful if you have a rollator and need more space. However there are no handles on the wall or enough space for a wheelchair. The disabled toilet is through in the reception area of the hotel. It is kept locked and the key can be easily obtained from the reception desk.
The Well Plaid offer a selection of hot and cold meals, sandwiches and jacket potatoes. There is usually home baking available although there was none on the day we visited.
Lunch in Well Plaid Portree
We were having lunch before our walk around The Lump. Well Plaid a perfect spot to start the walk up to The Lump or round The Meall path as it starts across the road.
For lunch Sarah ordered the Seafood Pizza which was topped with salmon, prawns, anchovies and olives. Melanie had a simpler choice of a tuna mayo sandwich with fries. Both meals were delicious. Cooked fresh and served to our table. The Well Plaid lunch menu is served 12 noon to 3pm. The menu includes vegetarian and vegan dishes, the staff would be only too willing to help out with any dietary questions you may have. You can enquire at the reception desk about evening meals in the Tianavaig Restaurant. We will have to add this to our list of places to try out!
