The Galley Seafood Cafe is a haven for lovers of freshly caught and beautifully cooked seafood. There are also many meat options using local produce and vegetarian options too. When creating the premises it seems that accessibility was at the forefront of the plans. A lovely spot to enjoy lunch or dinner on Skye.

The Galley Seafood Cafe is at Carnbeag, Earlish. This is on the A87 just a few minutes south of Uig in the north of Skye. On your left hand side as you leave Uig and head to Portree, or on the right from the other direction. The cafe is well signed from the A87. Go up the steep driveway, across the front of the house and you will see The Galley. There is one disabled space in front of the cafe but no space is very far from the door. There is a ramp to the front door and the outside seating area or 3 small steps with a handrail. Choose whichever is easiest for you.

The Menu

Freshly caught seafood and locally sourced meat dominates the menu. A daily specials blackboard graces each table. Most of the seafood is available as a small plate, perfect for lunch time or as a main meal. The cafe is open daily 12noon to 8pm and we would recommend you book a table. Word has got out how good The Galley is and it gets very busy. When we got up to pay every table was occupied.

Our visit coincided with lunchtime so Sarah ordered a small portion of Squat Lobster from the Specials Blackboard. It is one of her favourite dishes on a seafood menu, and it did not disappoint. Presented in a garlic or chilli oil with a fresh side salad. Melanie chose Mozzarella Sticks which came with a fresh side salad and garlic mayonnaise. A portion of skin-on chips graced the table for munching and mopping up sauces and dips. Both dishes were delicious, and we vowed to return to try more from the menu.

There is also a cake counter which looked very appetising. Maybe next time we will have dessert as well!

If you live or are staying locally you can call ahead and order menu items as a takeaway and simply pop in and collect your order.

Once inside there is some fixed booth seating and other free standing seating. You will be able to find somewhere suitable for your needs. It is table service so once you are comfortable there is no need to move around. There is also a large fully equipped accessible toilet. It is one toilet for all customers but it has been created with accessibility mind.

Our visit was a great success and we can’t wait to find another walk we need to do in the area so we can return.
