Red Brick Cafe @ Jans

Jans is a hardware store on the Broom Place Industrial Estate just outside Portree and so is away from the tourism hotspots. The Red Brick Cafe @ Jans is a newer addition and has become very popular with the locals.Parking at Jans

Jans has a couple of disabled parking space opposite the front door and the rest of the car park is down a steep slope. A disabled passenger can be dropped off at the door where there is usually a bench they can sit on if needed, unless it has recently been sold, while the driver parks the car.

Entrance to the Red Brick Cafe at Jans

There are no steps at the entrance to Jans, and although the cafe is situated at the rear of the building it is only a short walk. The store’s aisles are wide enough for a wheelchair, one of which Jans has available for customer use. There is a disabled toilet at the rear of the store which is available for patrons of both the store and restaurant.

The Red Brick Cafe

As Jans is out of the village centre it does not get as busy as some of the central locations so finding space for wheelchairs is rarely a problem. The Red Brick Cafe@ Jans is happy to accommodate pre-booked disabled groups and the staff are always very helpful.

Menus are on the tables and you order Food and Drink at the counter. The staff bring your order to the table and are always willing to help carrying items to the table if necessary.

There is a varied menu available with breakfast served all day; a selection of panini’s, ciabattas and toasties; hot meals, and daily specials and a soup of the day. There are also hot and cold drinks available and a selection of scones and cakes.

Food at The Red Brick Cafe @Jans

Sarah and I enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Red Brick Cafe. Sarah opted for the Soup Combo, which comprised of a hearty bowl of home made soup and a Thorney Croft panini. You can choose any panini, toasty or sandwich in the Soup Combo so it is a steal at just £8.15. I enjoyed a stack of scotch pancakes, smoked bacon and lashings of maple syrup. Amazing value at £5.35 or only £3.50 without the bacon. And of course we had to finish with a naughty treat. The cake selection is in a cabinet by the till so we wandered over and had lots to choose from. There we two pieces of Oreo Cheesecake that had our names all over them. Absolutely delicious, and served with chocolate sauce, wafer pencils and a pot of pouring cream. Again amazing value at just £2.50 per slice.

It is safe to say it wasn’t our first time at the Red Brick Cafe @Jans and certainly won’t be our last.
