The Old Road at Skeabost

The old road at Skeabost was once the only connection between the north and south of the Island. Later, it was turned into a single track road running over the Old Skeabost bridge connecting Skeabost with Portree. A new dual road eventually replaced the road, but as with many of Skye’s old roads it remains as a footpath.

We decided to try this walk when we did as we were looking for somewhere we would be able to enjoy the last of the autumn colours. It certainly did not disappoint.

Carbost War Memorial

After lunch at Cafe Cuil, we took a short drive to the parking area below Carbost War Memorial for a short and steep walk. Then we retraced our tracks down to the Merkadale burial ground, very close to Cafe Cuil for a short shoreside wander.

Fairy Pools

The Fairy Pools are one of the top attractions on the Isle of Skye. Attracting thousands of visitors every year to this beautiful corner of the island. Recently the Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland has invested huge amounts into the infrastructure to support these visitor numbers. A new car park, toilet block and path have been created which increase accessibility and protect the environment surrounding the pools.

Uig Community Woodland

The Uig Community Woodland comprises of three separate walks. The Shore Wood Wander is very accessible for wheelchair and walkers. The other two routes need a lot more mobility and are not wheelchair friendly. If you are in the north end of Skye it is a lovely spot to have a wander.

A Walk at Waterloo

Summer seems to have arrived late on Skye this year so when the sun shines we make the most of it. With high clouds and a warm breeze we headed south for a walk at Waterloo. It is a short and easy walk with rewarding views over Broadford Bay and Beinn Na Caillach.

Kiltaraglen Track

The Kiltaraglen track is located just on the outskirts of Portree. With three points of access it is well suited to people living in Portree itself. It is an access track for a couple of properties so is in good condition. Well loved by local dog walkers and those of us just wanting an easy stroll.

Kilmarie

Kilmarie is a tiny wee place on Skye that most folks simply drive past on the way to Elgol. We stopped and found a walk with amazing views that is very accessible for all abilities. As a bonus when the tide is out there is a beach to be explored as well.

Penifiler to Inveralivaig

The walk from Penifiler to Inveralivaig is short and sweet from the township to the shores of Loch Portree. Only a short distance from Portree and relatively accessible for those with good mobility and a little bit of stamina.

Skriaig Mast Walk

The Skriaig Mast Walk is tucked away near the tiny township of Glenmore, Isle of Skye. It is a relatively straightforward and accessible walk to try. Based on a mainly tarmac surface you make progress whilst being rewarded with fantastic views all around you. From the Cuillin ridge to the MacLeod’s Tables all in one panorama. The Two Lochs Walk

The Two Lochs Walk starts close to Broadford in the south of Skye and is yet to feature on any Ordnance Survey maps. That said it is easy to find, easily accessible and a well made track that many different abilities will find they can use.
