Deli Gasta is situated in the old watermill building in Broadford. This building once housed a Serpentarium but is now home to a lovely Cafe. And don’t worry, we saw no snakes on our visit. It is open all year round 9am – 5pm for snacks, breakfast, lunches and drinks.
Whilst the car park at Deli Gasta does not have any designated disabled spaces nowhere is far from the door. The surface is very compact gravel so getting from the car to the door should not pose too many problems. The entrance door is on the centre of the building and has a very low step up to the internal door to the cafe. Some one in a wheelchair would need help to get over this small threshold but it is possible with help.
Once inside the cafe it is open plan with all free standing furniture. Space is at a premium but there is room to move chairs around in order to fit a wheelchair in at a table. The staff are very helpful at Deli Gasta so this shouldn’t cause any problems at all.
The Menu at Deli Gasta
There really is something for everyone on the menu at Deli Gasta. There are breakfast dishes served until 11am alongside sandwiches, wraps, toasties, bagels and salads. As well as soup of the day and an array of sweet treats. On our visit Sarah enjoyed a Crayfish and Mango wrap and Melanie devoured a Scottish Roast Beef sandwich. Both were served with dressed leaves and were delicious, so fresh and tasty. The only criticism would be that the wrap was so full of crayfish it was difficult to eat daintily.
UPDATE 18/11/2021
There is now a fully accessible disabled toilet up the ramp to the left of the entrance door inside Deli Gasta as well as the toilet we described below.
There is a toilet and a baby changing room with toilet in it at Deli Gasta. Neither are wheelchair friendly but the changing room is quite roomy. As the building is an old solid stone watermill it is quite difficult to change some features. This means that unfortunately the toilet is located up a couple of stairs. Sarah managed to negotiate the stairs using her sticks and the side of a handily positioned dresser for balance. However anyone less mobile than Sarah would run into difficulties. There is a handrail inside the toilet to make things a little easier for less able customers. That said there are two sets of public disabled toilets in Broadford. One inside the Co-op and the other opposite the main car park next to the telephone exchange building. The rest of the cafe is all one level with a gentle slope between the two halves of the building.
Deli Gasta offers a takeaway service on all their hot and cold drinks and sandwiches. You can order at the counter and then head off into the surrounding countryside to enjoy your picnic. Alternatively in the summer months there are picnic benches next to the burn so you can enjoy your picnic right outside Deli Gasta.
