The old road at Skeabost was once the only connection between the north and south of the Island. Later, it was turned into a single track road running over the Old Skeabost bridge connecting Skeabost with Portree. A new dual road eventually replaced the road, but as with many of Skye’s old roads it remains as a footpath.

We decided to try this walk when we did as we were looking for somewhere we would be able to enjoy the last of the autumn colours. It certainly did not disappoint.

The Fairy Pools
The Fairy Pools

The Fairy Pools are one of the top attractions on the Isle of Skye. Attracting thousands of visitors every year to this beautiful corner of the island. Recently the Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland has invested huge amounts into the infrastructure to support these visitor numbers. A new car park, toilet block and path have been created which increase accessibility and protect the environment surrounding the pools.

Kilmarie is a tiny wee place on Skye that most folks simply drive past on the way to Elgol. We stopped and found a walk with amazing views that is very accessible for all abilities. As a bonus when the tide is out there is a beach to be explored as well.
