Chocolates of Glenshiel

Chocolates of Glenshiel was founded by Finlay MacDonald in 2016 when he was just 16. You will see their chocolate stocked in many places while you are visiting Skye. After starting his business at home Finlay has now opened a chocolate centre in Shiel Bridge. Here you will find a cafe and gift shop as well as a peek at the chocolate making operation. We decided to stop here for a sweet treat as we were in the area.

Inside the building
Inside the building

Chocolates of Glenshiel is located in the old Shiel Bridge Filling Station area on the A87, just east of Shiel Bridge itself. There is a large car park with plenty of space but no designated disabled parking spaces. There is an EV charging space on the left of the front door. The entrance to the building is a small slope and through a wide door. Once inside everything is on the same level. The shop and cafe are all in the same room so you can browse from the comfort of your chair while enjoying a drink and cake.

The Cafe and Shop

The cafe is quite spacious considering it’s size. Most of the seating is free standing so a chair or table could be moved to accommodate a wheelchair if necessary.

Order your food at the counter and then it is table service. Whilst ordering we noticed a jar of samples by the till. Our server offered us a couple of these to try along with our order. Hmmm…delicious, a mouthwatering salted hazelnut chocolate thin.

Delicious Fresh Raspberry and Chocolate Cake
Delicious Fresh Raspberry and Chocolate Cake

We both had coffee and a slice of Fresh Raspberry and Chocolate Cake. While enjoying these we could see through to the kitchen where the chocolate was being made. They make chocolate inspired by local flavours with locally sourced ingredients. As well as traditional bars of chocolate there are also boxes of hand crafted individual chocolates. The flavours in these take inspiration from Scotland – whisky, gin, berries, marmalade and sea salt to name just a few. The range includes vegan chocolate bars and boxes.

They have plenty of interesting souvenirs on offer, local interest books, maps and of course, bars of chocolate for you to buy. If you stop here as you are leaving Skye then these make the perfect gift for friends and family back home.

There is a toilet here but we didn’t use it on this visit so can’t comment on it’s accessibility.
