Torrin Pools are a bit of a hidden gem on Skye. A Fairy Pools in miniature and without the crowds. Not a very accessible spot for less able folks but definitely an interesting wee walk for anyone else. Sarah gave it a bash with her two sticks and my help and we made it a short way from the car over uneven ground.
Location
The Torrin Pools are located, you’ve guessed it, near Torrin on the Elgol-Broadford road. If you are heading towards Elgol you need to go through the small township of Torrin. Drive until the road levels and starts to follow the edge of Loch Slapin. After a very short distance a burn crosses underneath the road. You will see a metal barrier on the right hand side. This is the spot you need to be for the very hidden Torrin Pools. Drive over the small bridge and park on some gravel on the right hand side of the road. On a map this burn is the Allt Aisridh and the Allt an t-Sratha Bhig. The two burns converge into the pools.
Torrin Pools
From here there are small paths/sheep tracks along either side of the burn. As you look up at the burn on the left hand side you can get to the water level near to the foot of the road bridge. This is where we took the first photo. If you stay on this side of the burn it is a gentle grassy slope uphill. Follow the burn and see further waterfalls and aquamarine pools. Follow the burn as far as you feel comfortable, and don’t forget to enjoy the views.
To investigate the waterfalls from the right hand side you need to be a bit more sure footed as the paths are very narrow and steeper. Go back to the road and safely cross the burn there. Then find a track and follow the burn onwards and upwards. The pools and falls look stunning from this side too. There is no right or wrong way to enjoy your time around Torrin Pools. Enjoy what you can, walk where you can and enjoy the views back to Bla Bheinn over Loch Slapin. This is a stunning part of Skye, often overlooked as folks are zooming straight to Elgol and not stopping to appreciate the scenery. On a hot day it is not uncommon to see people splashing about in the Torrin Pools so maybe bring a towel if the weather is right!
