The Kiltaraglen track is located just on the outskirts of Portree. With three points of access it is well suited to people living in Portree itself. It is an access track for a couple of properties so is in good condition. Well loved by local dog walkers and those of us just wanting an easy stroll.

The Skriaig Mast Walk is tucked away near the tiny township of Glenmore, Isle of Skye. It is a relatively straightforward and accessible walk to try. Based on a mainly tarmac surface you make progress whilst being rewarded with fantastic views all around you. From the Cuillin ridge to the MacLeod’s Tables all in one panorama. This Struan Hill Road Forest Track is located approximately 4.5 miles from the centre of Portree on the B885 Portree – Struan Road. Known locally as the Struan Hill Road or Hill Road. We did enquire if the track was known locally by any name but nothing came forth so until we know any better we will call it the Struan Hill Road Forest Track. A good accessible track suitable for all abilities and all weathers.

On a typical Spring day on Skye when the weather changes every 15 minutes we headed to Portree Forest. Between the trees we could shelter from any rain or hail, and enjoy the sunbeams penetrating through the tree canopy. It is a walk enjoyed by many locals and is relatively straightforward. However winter storms have eroded parts of the path so wheelchair users now may find access quite difficult. Here is how we got on.

This walk starts just 4 miles south of Portree on the A87 by the Old Varragill Bridge. It is a linear walk of 1.5 km in total on an old forestry track, Sheltered from the wind by trees, a gentle ascent gives fabulous views to the Gaskin Burn waterfall. It is an easy to follow accessible track.

Looking across Portree Harbour from the village there is a pristine piece of green land. Usually adorned with a flagpole which sadly broke in a early winter storm of 2020. This area is home to the Nicolson Clan Memorial. The walk from the village centre (Somerled Square) to the memorial is approximately 2.5km or 1.5 miles . Walking halfway on the footpath and halfway on the pathless Scorrybreac Road. Sarah found it quite tricky in places which we will describe at length below.
