The Waverley is the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world and once a year it comes up to Skye. The Waverley Paddle Steamer offers several different cruises while on Skye, sailing from Kyle of Lochalsh, Armadale, Raasay or Portree. We opted for the cruise sailing from Portree and going up the coast to Staffin Island and back. It also operates from other ports in western Scotland and occasionally in England and Wales so check their website for details.

Having being a feature of Skye since 1965 The Skye Museum of Island Life is a popular attraction on the island. It charts the history of life on the island during the nineteenth century. Despite it’s age it is still a reasonably accessible attraction and we enjoyed our visit. You can also link this visit to some other attractions in the area:

Located in Harrapool on the Isle of Skye, The Coffee Bothy is the new kid in town. Opening in March 2022 in what was formally known as New Creelers it is already a bustling coffee shop. Serving light lunches and cakes for both dine-in and takeaway it is already a hit with locals and visitors alike! Do keep an eye out for adorable Jynx who is a cheeky puppy in charge of Public, or maybe that should be Puppy Relations!

Kilmarie is a tiny wee place on Skye that most folks simply drive past on the way to Elgol. We stopped and found a walk with amazing views that is very accessible for all abilities. As a bonus when the tide is out there is a beach to be explored as well.

The Dunvegan is a restaurant, cafe and deli-shop situated in Dunvegan, north west Skye. It is a great place from where you can explore many of Skye’s attractions. Within a couple of minutes you are on the road to Dunvegan Castle and the Coral beach at Claigan. In the other direction you will be on the road to Bharcasaig Bay and Neist Point. Yet only less than 20 miles from Portree. We joined our visit to The Dunvegan to one with Dunvegan Castle.

The Skriaig Mast Walk is tucked away near the tiny township of Glenmore, Isle of Skye. It is a relatively straightforward and accessible walk to try. Based on a mainly tarmac surface you make progress whilst being rewarded with fantastic views all around you. From the Cuillin ridge to the MacLeod’s Tables all in one panorama.
