Hector’s Bothy and Hector’s 2 Go are a crucial part of the cafe scene in Kyle of Lochalsh. When most other food businesses are seasonal Hector’s is open all year round. Popular with locals and visitors alike, the food is freshly prepared and plentiful.
Getting to Hector’s Bothy and Parking
Hector’s Bothy is next to the main car park in Kyle of Lochalsh. This is on your left just before the Skye Bridge if you are heading to Skye and just after the bridge on your right if you are leaving the island. This car park has two disabled spaces near the Seaprobe Atlantis ticket office. From these parking spaces, head back towards Kyle village and you will see Hector’s Bothy.
The entrance sits slightly above the pavement but there is a ramp so this is not a problem. There is however a small lip at the threshold which may cause difficulty for some wheelchairs. But Sarah had no difficulty with her wheeled walker so it is not insurmountable.
Hector’s is quite small and compact inside with some booth seating. There are also some smaller tables and chairs which can be moved to accommodate a wheelchair. Currently there are plastic screens up to comply with Covid-19 regulations so it doesn’t feel as spacious as usual.
Food and Drink at Hector’s Bothy
Hector’s provide table service, though there are cakes on display at the counter so you may want to check these out before you take your seat.
Hector’s offers a selection of sandwiches, toasties and paninis. . They also offer baked potatoes and many hot meals, and are renowned for their Fish and Chips. Check out the specials board above the counter for the daily specials and the soup of the day. Melanie had a Bacon and Brie Panini while Sarah had Brie and Cranberry in hers. Both were served with a side salad.
There is a selection of hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks and Hector’s also has a selection of alcoholic beverages available.
There is also home baking available but for a change Sarah and Melanie both opted for one of Hector’s ice cream sundaes. Both opting for the millionaire’s sundae, a delicious mixture of cream, ice cream, chocolate and toffee sauces and chunks of shortbread. What a treat!
Facilities
Hector’s has a disabled toilet and there is also a disabled toilet at the public toilets in the car park. As we will be in Kyle quite often for our Advancing Active Journey’s Project we will likely be frequenting Hector’s for lunch again! Which sundae to choose next time?
